2026年7月10日（金）から14日（火）まで、本学の協定校であるフィンドレー大学（米国オハイオ州）より、Department of Equestrian Studies and Equine ManagementのRobin Koehler先生が本学を訪問しました。
今回の訪問では、馬学教育・研究に関する情報交換をはじめ、本学教職員や学生との交流、学内外の関連施設の視察などを通して、両大学の連携をさらに深める機会となりました。
From July 10 to 14, 2026, Professor Robin Koehler of the Department of Equestrian Studies and Equine Management at the University of Findlay (Ohio, USA), one of Rakuno Gakuen University’s partner institutions, visited our campus.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the two universities through discussions on equine education and research, exchanges with faculty and students, and visits to equine-related facilities both on and off campus.

馬学教育・研究に関する意見交換/Strengthening Collaboration in Equine Education and Research
滞在中は、社台ホースクリニックや本学馬術部、北海道和種馬の保存・管理を行う「ワッツ・どさんこクラブ」などを訪問し、日本における馬学教育や馬産業について理解を深めました。
社台ホースクリニックでは、本学獣医保健看護学類の郡山教授に施設をご案内いただき、所長の加藤獣医師の案内のもと施設を見学しました。競走馬の診療体制や施設運営について説明を受けるとともに、競走馬の健康状態に応じた栄養管理や飼料給与について専門的な意見交換を行いました。 また、Koehler先生からは、フィンドレー大学におけるウエスタンおよびイングリッシュ馬術教育や馬学教育や栄養管理について講演が行われました。講演後には、競走馬の栄養管理や馬の扱い方などをテーマに活発な意見交換が行われ、当日は獣医師や動物看護師、飼育員など約30名が参加しました。講演終了後も多くの質問が寄せられるなど、参加者の関心の高さがうかがえました。
During the visit, Professor Koehler toured several equine-related facilities, including Shadai Horse Clinic, the Rakuno Gakuen University Equestrian Club, and Watts Dosanko Club, an organization dedicated to the conservation and management of the Hokkaido Native Horse. These visits provided valuable insights into equine education and the horse industry in Japan.
At Shadai Horse Clinic, Professor Kooriyama of the Department of Veterinary Science introduced the clinic’s facilities, followed by a guided tour led by Dr. Kato, Director of the clinic. During the visit, Professor Koehler learned about the clinic’s operations and racehorse veterinary care while exchanging expertise with the clinic’s veterinarians on nutritional management and feeding practices tailored to racehorses’ health conditions.
Professor Koehler also delivered a lecture on the University of Findlay’s Western and English riding programs, as well as its equine education, research, and nutrition programs. The lecture was followed by an engaging discussion on topics including racehorse nutrition and horse handling. Approximately 30 participants, including veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and animal care professionals, attended the seminar. The lively Q&A session that continued after the presentation reflected the participants’ strong interest in the subject.

また、学内では循環農学類の天野朋子教授研究室において、「Equine Education and Research in the United States and Japan」をテーマとしたセミナーを開催しました。Koehler先生からはフィンドレー大学における馬学教育について、天野教授からは北海道和種馬をはじめとする日本在来馬やその研究について紹介があり、参加した学生との活発な質疑応答を通して、日米における馬学教育や研究への理解を深めました。
On campus, a seminar entitled Equine Education and Research in the United States and Japan was held in the laboratory of Professor Tomoko Amano, Department of Sustainable Agriculture. Professor Koehler introduced equine education at the University of Findlay, while Professor Amano presented her research on Japanese native horse breeds, including the Hokkaido Native Horse. Through active discussions with students, the seminar provided an excellent opportunity to deepen understanding of equine education and research in both Japan and the United States.

学生との交流/Connecting with Students
Koehler先生は、本学馬術部の早朝練習を見学し、部員への技術的なアドバイスを行うとともに、学生との交流を深めました。
Professor Koehler also visited the Rakuno Gakuen University Equestrian Club during its early morning practice, where she observed training sessions, offered technical advice, and interacted with student riders.

さらに、フィンドレー大学への留学経験者や今後留学を予定している学生、本学留学生とも交流されました。学生たちは留学生活や大学生活について意見交換を行い、海外で学ぶことへの期待を高める機会となりました。留学予定の学生によるキャンパスツアーも行われ、本学学生が主体となって交流を支えました。
Professor Koehler also met with Rakuno Gakuen University students who had previously studied at the University of Findlay, students preparing to study abroad, and international students on campus. They exchanged experiences and discussed student life and studying abroad, providing an inspiring opportunity for students preparing for overseas study.
Students who are scheduled to study at the University of Findlay also gave Professor Koehler a campus tour, taking the lead in welcoming their guest and supporting interactions throughout the visit.

今後のさらなる連携に向けて/Looking Ahead
滞在中には、岩野英知学長および髙島英也理事長への表敬訪問も行われ、これまでの両大学の交流を振り返るとともに、今後の教育・研究交流や学生交流のさらなる発展について意見を交わしました。
During her stay, Professor Koehler paid courtesy visits to President Hidetomo Iwano and Chairperson Hideya Takashima. They reflected on the long-standing partnership between the two universities and discussed opportunities to further expand collaboration in education, research, and student exchange.

本学とフィンドレー大学は2005年から交流を継続しており、短期交換留学や長期留学プログラムを通じて、多くの学生が海外で実践的な学びを経験しています。
今回の訪問は、教員・学生双方の交流をさらに深める貴重な機会となりました。本学では今後もフィンドレー大学との連携を推進し、国際交流を通じた教育・研究活動のさらなる充実を図ってまいります。
Rakuno Gakuen University and the University of Findlay have maintained a partnership since 2005. Through both short-term and long-term study abroad programs, many students have gained valuable international learning experiences.
Professor Koehler’s visit further strengthened the relationship between the two institutions and provided meaningful opportunities for faculty and student exchange. Rakuno Gakuen University looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the University of Findlay while expanding educational and research opportunities through international partnerships.
